It’s Christmas Day 2021 and the house is quiet. With my regular morning coffee in hand and fuzzy slippers on, the house is quiet. Outside, Christmas music can be heard in the distance. As I anticipate my night plans to visit Rockefeller Center for a magical Christmas Eve evening, I feel at a crossroads. I have so much gratitude and appreciation for all the blessings in life and so many new ideas for healthy habits that I want to put into practice for my business and myself. As I think about the direction of my business for the new year, and all the momentum that the last quarter of 2021 created, I can’t help but think about who I will become over the next year. This begs the question: HOW will I become the Christmas 2022 version of me?
1. Be a mOther content The Haves and the LConcernedWith the “Have Nots”
Being a business person can lead to a constant drive for more. This is not only a driving force that drives a business to greater heights, it also makes you blind to all of the good things in your life, whether they have been achieved, or have gone well. You can spend this year focusing more on what matters most, such as time with loved ones, material items, or manifestations that will help your business.
2. You can be more flexible when things are out of your hands
I’m a big fan of a plan and organization, a great quality as an entrepreneur and business person. However, I notice that when things DON’T go according to plan, it throws me for a loop and is often hard and time consuming to get back on track. Truthfully, getting upset when things don’t go the way we plan because of something out of our control is the ultimate loss of control. Keep in mind that you cannot control everything, but you do have control over your energy. Is it unrealistic to never be disappointed again, or get frustrated when things don’t go according to plan? Definitely. Is it possible to harness our energy faster and more efficiently when things go wrong? For sure. You will find better, more rational and clear-headed decisions if you are willing to go with it. Do you have a question? Ask yourself: WHAT do I have control over right now? If you feel that your only option is to use your energy right now, then take a deep breath.
“Habit is the intersection of knowledge (what to do), skill (how to do), and desire (want to do).” -Stephen R. Covey
3. Daily realistic healthy habits
It is going to be a huge year for me in 2022. Because I am a little addicted to immediate gratification, it is easy to overlook how many small and consistent healthy habits make a big difference. A farmer tends to their garden daily with understanding that that’s what it takes for the crop to grow healthy by the harvest season. Whether it be waking up earlier, going to the gym 4 days a week, drinking a gallon of water a day, or sticking to the daily tasks set in business, be more “farmer” minded about the benefits of doing healthy habits consistently and not for the instant gratification of them, but with the knowing that they are preparing yourself and your business for the harvest.
4. Make it easy
As goal oriented, self motivated individuals, we can become so laser focused on what we are trying to achieve we can lose sight of the power in relaxing; I don’t necessarily mean the spa (though that in and of itself has its own power) but more so the relaxing in trusting that everything will work out the way it is suppose to. As we can’t let go of what we want, we will create more resistance to that thing. Be easy with everything this year! There are many things that you cannot control.
5. You should be more self-effacing and less selfish
Wait, What? You heard me, putting your needs first is the most important thing you can do for yourself and your company. But sometimes, we don’t know how or when to put ourselves first. In the new year, be more self-centered in how you spend your energy and time. Be more selfish and less willing to compromise. Also, understand that it is important to prioritize what you must do to care for your own business and yourself. You should also remember to not be selfish about obtaining things your way and to ask your team for more. Do less if it causes harm to yourself or others, and more if it is essential for your own growth and productivity as well as the wellbeing of your company and business,
It’s time to start thinking about Next Christmas. You will be the person you want to become and you can help your business succeed. Just like days go by and somehow it’s a new year, choose these or other habits to implement regularly whether daily or moment by moment to have the most successful year in 2022.
