Liberty HealthShare members consistently highlight several aspects of their experience with the Christian healthcare sharing ministry. From personal attention during medical challenges to financial relief for major health events, members enthusiastically provide firsthand accounts of how the ministry has supported them through various health journeys.
Many members are impressed by the personalized attention they receive from Liberty HealthShare’s dedicated team. Cindy Pavell, a member since 2017, noticed significant improvements when new leadership began guiding the ministry three years ago.
“It’s been like night and day,” Pavell said. “It’s much more organized, and my bills are being shared into. I don’t have anybody on my back about stuff not getting paid.”
As a health and wellness fitness coach who has faced numerous health challenges, including Hodgkin’s lymphoma, heart problems, double knee replacements, and most recently, breast cancer, Pavell particularly values the regular check-ins from the Care Navigation staff.
“I truly feel taken care of. I don’t have any trepidation about taking care of my health with Liberty HealthShare,” she noted.
This personal touch extends to customer service interactions. Member Nylda Carrido praised staff member Loris, who “went above & beyond” to assist with concerns and educated Carrido’s healthcare providers about Liberty HealthShare rules regarding billing.
Faith-Based Community Values
Liberty Healthshare’s faith-based foundation resonates strongly with members who appreciate being part of a Christian community that helps carry the burden of others’ medical expenses in teaching with a “do unto others” ethos.
“We have a deep faith in God. And I appreciate the ministry,” said Don Winslett, a semi-retired accountant who joined in 2018. “It’s reflected by the attitudes of the people who answer your phones.”
For Pavell, Liberty HealthShare complements her broader Christian support system. “There’s nothing like a Christian family. There just isn’t,” she said, noting how her church community brought food and gathered to pray during her cancer treatment.
Chief Executive Officer Dorsey Morrow emphasizes that prayer remains central to the ministry’s operations. Each Friday, employees receive a list of prayer requests from members and take time to pray for them.
Assistance With Major Medical Events
Members frequently highlight how Liberty HealthShare helped them manage significant health crises without overwhelming financial burden.
When Winslett required prostate cancer treatment in 2021, Liberty HealthShare members shared his eligible medical costs totaling $58,000. “It’s still hard for me to believe how powerful the Liberty HealthShare community was. It really worked out well for me,” Winslett explained.
Another member, Terri Holman, has a similar experience: “Hubby was diagnosed with cancer in 2019 and Liberty HealthShare helped us with payment and negotiations with the hospital to pay the astronomical expenses that come with a major health diagnosis.”
Cost-Effective Alternative
The financial benefits of membership appear throughout member testimonials. Jen Lamb noted, “The cost is much lower than traditional insurance coverage and the people are always pleasant to talk to and pleasant when helping with understanding work through details.”
Member JC, who joined after early retirement at age 56, stated: “Liberty HealthShare was great then, and is even better now … I have recommended Liberty HealthShare to many people.”
Members particularly value Liberty HealthShare’s active role in helping reduce bills through negotiation with providers.
“They also do the work of trying to lower the cost of medical bills instead of making me do it,” Lamb explained.
The ministry works with multiple vendors to negotiate with medical providers on behalf of members. “We’ve got three or four various vendors, and each of them have a very specific task and help us identify problem areas,” Morrow explained.
Freedom of Choice
Liberty HealthShare members appreciate the flexibility in selecting healthcare providers without network restrictions.
“You aren’t constrained either to a particular network. We do participate in a network, one of the largest in the country, which helps our members control costs, but you’re not obligated to use it,” Morrow notes.
This freedom extends to program selection. The ministry offers six medical cost-sharing programs, and a supplemental dental sharing program designed for different needs and budgets, with monthly share amounts for individuals ranging from $87 to $369 and family options starting at $319 per month.
For new members, Liberty HealthShare provides extensive resources to help them understand how healthcare sharing works.
“You can expect a lot of communication from us, a lot of resources,” Morrow explains.
This thorough onboarding helps address initial hesitations that some members experience. Winslett admitted, “I had never heard of Liberty HealthShare before, and naturally I was a little skeptical. Joining took considerable faith, bolstered by the experiences shared by our friends.”
Transparency and Accountability
Liberty HealthShare promotes transparency throughout its operations, says Dorsey.
“We do what we say, and we say what we will do,” Morrow stated. “Anything and everything you want to know about Liberty HealthShare, you can go to our website. You’ll see we are an open book.”
Members can track their contributions’ impact through ShareBox, a personalized online portal. This transparency has earned Liberty HealthShare recognition from both Charity Navigator and Candid, leading nonprofit evaluators, for operational excellence and accountability.
Lasting Relationships
Many members maintain their relationship with Liberty HealthShare until they transition to Medicare, reflecting long-term satisfaction with the ministry.
“We are leaving because we have crossed over the Medicare bridge. Highly recommend,” wrote Holman. Similarly, Winslett noted his experience was “totally pleasant from the day we signed up, to the day I went on to Medicare.”
Another member, JC, shared: “I have since moved on to Medicare, but my wife is still blessed to have Liberty HealthShare.”
