What Podcasts do Exceptional People Listen to?

Podcasts have become a valuable contributor to our society and have become a strong piece of content for people in every corner of the world and in every niche you can image. Podcasts give us the chance to learn from experts, listen to intriguing conversations from people with differing views, and hear the latest news in a platform that is more informative than traditional news.

There’s truly a podcast for everyone. From students to CEOs, future entrepreneurs to business owners, and every in-between, including true crime lovers, of course.

But have you ever asked yourself ‘I wonder what podcasts that specific person listens to?’ For example, I’m always curious to hear what podcasts are being listened to by successful business leaders and high-profile industry experts who seem to know it all and have it all figured out. But they don’t know it all and we can all learn from the knowledge shared on podcasts.

So, I asked a variety of leaders and business owners about the podcasts they like to listen to so I can begin to understand what people are interested in:

(1) Ten Percent Happier with Dan Harris

“As a company founder and someone who has worked in business world for many years, I don’t necessarily look to podcasts for that type of instead. Instead, I turn to podcasts as a way to escape some of the negative feelings that come from being a busy business owner and so I can better understand myself.

Ten Percent Happier with Dan Harris is an excellent podcast that touches on important topics like de-stressing, work-life balance, fighting off burnout, and just being happier in general as you navigate this busy world we live in. I highly recommend it to every and any one!”

(2) Funny, light Podcasts

“I actually don’t have one podcast to recommend because there isn’t just one I dedicate myself to. Instead, I religiously find new funny and light podcasts that can provide some fun in my workday. I work hard to learn and grow every day and week, so more business content isn’t something I need. Instead, I need something like ‘SmartLess’, ‘Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend’, ‘The Pete and Sebastian Show’, and more.

The laughs these shows provide me during a busy workday or even to start my day are exactly what I need from podcasts and I’m always on the lookout for more.”

(3) Listen to the successful heavyweights

“I don’t always agree with the things they say and the advice they provide, but I do think listening to the heavyweights can be quite helpful. When I say ‘heavyweights’, I mean: Gary Vaynerchuk, Tim Ferris, Reid Hoffman, and more.

There’s no better way to learn than from the experts who have done it all and have been there. These experts I so often listen to have reached a huge level of success and I find their insight to be quite interesting. That’s why I listen to these podcasts.”

(4) My Podcast Recommendation: Mix it up

My personal advice, and what I try to do with my listening, is mix it up. Some times, I try to label each day for the types of podcasts I want to be listening so it can provide me with a bit of a schedule and encourage unique listening. You don’t want to listen to true crime podcasts every day (that’s a bit mordbid), but the same goes for if you were listening to just comedy podcasts or only business podcasts. Like so much in business, it’s all about finding that balance.

I’m always on the hunt for new podcasts and like to mix it up as much as I can, from inspirational podcasts to something quite a bit lighter, and beyond. It makes me excited to find new shows and can provide a wide variety of knowledge for me in the long run.
